HIV AIDS FIGHT AND MEDICINES STOCK-OUTS

The Malawi Health Equity Network National Coordinator, Mrs Martha Kwataine has expressed worry in Malawi’s fight against HIV and AIDS having noted the stock-out of  anti- biotics used in the treatment of Sexually Transimitted Infections and Opportunistic Infections in our public health facilities.

The concern was expressed at the pill-check report launch held on 20th July 2009.

What worries us most is that health facilities in the rural which are at primary level of care are the most affected.

She cited medicines like Ceftriaxone, Cotrimoxazole suspension, Metronidazole, Benzyl Benzathin Penicillin and Ciproflaxin.

The Media Houses pledged to keep vigilance in health news particularly on issues of essential medicines. No wonder, given that past newspaper articles have unearthed stories of drug theft and many other reasons for drug stock-outs.
